mookie. 1993 - 2007

im sorry to say, the one and only mookie, a.k.a. ‘the lion’, a.k.a. ‘mookie no one knows how big and strong you are’, passed away last night.
he developed a tumor over the last couple months and though he luckily did not suffer much during most of his sickness, he finally gave in. those of you who knew him will be happy to hear that he was his true self almost until the very end, hungry and obnoxiously loving. i never did get to say a real goodbye to him, as he got sick after i was last home, but i think he knew how much i love him. i went through a lot with mookie, i remember thinking (and telling him) that he was the most reliable friend in the entire world, im sad to let him go.
much love mookie, hope they got enormous bowls of after-cereal milk wherever you’re headed.

i’ll be sitting shiva all week here in glasgow (gentiles welcome).

having to make up websites sucks

for one more day, a site for the book of the same name, is finally live. i’ll admit to having never read any of the author’s (mitch albom) books, but apparently he sells a shit-ton of ‘em. 25,000 copies of the paperback version of fomd just went into stores, each one of them pointing to the site.

the site itself allows users to generate and dedicate stars, which populate the 3d star-field interface.my first project for third eye (big up barry designer for the incredibly beautiful visual style), and my first papervision project (which let me take this opportunity to point out, is awesome.)

ps. dont worry, the title of this post is more a quotation from those cool kids at power graphixx than a reflection of my own sentiments about making websites. in reality, i think having to make up websites blows.

its not you, its me.

i guess ive been pretty busy recently.

  • new job (yes the website sucks, but that’s why they’ve recruited hoss and myself).
  • lot’s of traveling. barcelona [photos] and a trip through the scottish highlands [photos].
  • and the real thing that’s kept me occupied: big brother.

but a big project is about to finally launch at work, all of my travels are finished, and much to my chagrin, bb ended yesterday…anyone wanna play some videogames?

bowser

not like king of the koopas, more like my new flatmate:
bowser on ur keyboard
bowser staring at the ceiling

superman: barmitzvahed, likes motzah ball soup

sos i was watchin superman II today and in the scene where that really dumb kid jumps falls into niagra falls and the s-man saves him, some lady shouts, ‘what a nice man’ immediately followed by, ‘well of course he’s jewish’. it’s true (click to play):superman is a jew!there you have it folks. superman: jew-ball.

computers make pretty things too, apparently

check this out. procedural programming’s pretty side.
now how come they didnt teach me that in college?

see more of jared’s stuff at levitated.net

tarbell’s substrate

two months later…

here’s some photos from rome, if you’re interested. i’ll show you some other stuff in a minute.

tank’s computer setup

part of the project im working on for the bbc is a multi-screen projection for the entrance into the new building. in order to test the setup the beebs have sent us six shuttle xpcs, loaded to the hilt, and a bunch of monitors. the madness that ensued:

Multi-Computer

the machine on the top is the server for the six slave machines. one of my favorite things was setting up synergy so that the mouse (attached to the server machine) moves side to side across all six computers—one ring to rule dem all. it looks even cooler with the application running, but im pretty sure an nda somewhere prohibits me from sharing that juicy bit with yall.

ps. ill throw up some roma photos soon.

pimp your skype

the other thing about getting my internet going is that i got to finally got to set up my dualphone 3088. for those of you not familiar, its a cordless skype/landline phone that doesnt require a pc! it just plugs directly into your router and phone line and there ya go. i know, i know, it is the greatest thing ever invented.

it really makes skype much more usuable, especially with my skypein number. someone call me so i can test the quality…please *tear*

subversion on a mac

when it came time to finally get all my freelance work back onto my mac pro i set out to install subversion, which dreamhost kindly and freely supplies, and made a fantastic discovery: scplugin.

scplugin is basically a mac version of the fantastic tortoise svn (as in finder context-menu, pretty icons, etc). plus this dude makes pkg installers for current versions of svn for mac. i feel very official…wanna give me some work?

what the fuck is the internet

i finally got internet in my flat. it only took them a month and a half, but those chaps eventually got their ass in gear and its actually quite fast, so im happy.

ive been reveling in the glory, gluttonously downloading software updates, finally trying out my joost beta (i dont think im impressed), setting up the chanel guide for windows media center (never missing an episode of life on mars again) as well as downloading a lot of porn.
